FEES is short for a Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing.
It is often the first choice to formally evaluate a patient's swallowing mechanism. The FEES examination is a very simple procedure. It involves passing a very small tube with a camera attached at the end through the nasal passage to view the airway.
This allows the clinician to determine if food and drink is going into your lungs instead of your stomach when swallowing (aspiration). FEES testing is a quick and simple procedure that’s very well tolerated and allows for fast diagnostic information regarding your swallowing disorder.
